Music Around the World Julie is the founder and director of Music Around the World, and Harmony is honored to have her leading these incredible classes for our families! Julie's path to developing this curriculum and establishing the Music Around the World business is a big part of what makes her class so enjoyable and thoroughly enriching -- the other part is her engaging personality! She received her BA from Yale in Comparative Literature (focus on French, Spanish, and Chinese), and her MBA from Northwestern in International Marketing, after which she worked for 10 years internationally, including 3 years in China. After becoming a mother, she became drawn to incorporating her knowledge and passion for language, culture, and music into supporting and enriching the development of children and the parent-child relationship. She went back and got a Masters degree in Education from San Jose State University, specializing in musical and multiple language learning in very young children, and holds a K-8 Multi-Subject Teaching Certificate for the State of California. Julie's style and Music Around the World curriculum have met with such success that the business now consists of a small staff of instructors personally trained and dedicated to sharing cultures and languages through the universal language of music with very young children and the people who love them! Julie's talents were even recognized by SJSU when she received their 2006 Multicultural Achievement Award in Education. She has been teaching music and language immersion baby and preschool programs for over ten years, including teaching in the Los Gatos and Union School Districts, the French American School of Silicon Valley, and the International School of the Peninsula. In addition to her Harmony classes, her Music Around the World program is currently offered at Community and Recreation Centers in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Menlo Park.
