This workshop introduces basic baby signs that are based on American Sign Language (ASL) and is designed for expectant parents and parents with hearing babies who range in age from birth to 18 months old.

The workshop is an hour and a half long during which information on the latest research on the benefits of signing with babies will be discussed. Parents are taught useful tips on how to expose their babies to signs.

Fun activities and songs will show you how easy it can be to integrate these signs into your every day routine and jump-start your child's verbal skills. This is a great way to see what infant signing is all about without a major commitment.


Six-week Playgroup

Our six-week playgroup is a fun opportunity for parents to build their signing usefulness and vocabulary with themes like mealtime, animals, colors, family, safety, and more.

Two different playgroup series are offered for an increased opportunity to practice and build your signing vocabulary. One is called Playgroup Zoom and the other is called Playgroup Boom. No need to take them in order - start with either Zoom or Boom.

Class will engage and enthrall babies, or parents are welcome to come on their own, since babies will do the bulk of their learning through being exposed to signs by their caregivers in their daily routines rather than in a class once a week, just like with spoken language.


Age-Apropriateness:
The research shows that babies exposed to signs begin to absorb them around 5-6 months old, and may begin to sign back around 9-10 months of age, so parents may begin to learn signs and how to seemlessly incorporate them whenever they are ready. Babies will then continue to gain new signing vocabulary to communicate thoughts and needs, as their language skills develop, for years, so this class is appropriate through at least 18 month of age, at which point a toddler group is preferred.
