Get Some Sleep!
For Standers & Toddlers 6 mths - 3 yrs +
Sleep Is a Basic Human Need.
And, as many parents have already learned, fostering good sleep is not a simple process. There are many variables in a child's life that can either support healthy sleep or disrupt it.
The good news is that it is never too late to teach your child new sleep skills
or too early to start with your newborn.
Child/family specialist Dawn Fry has devoted more than twenty-five years of her life to caring for children and learning from them what they need to feel nurtured and loved. She started teaching because families and caregivers kept asking her to teach them what she does -- what the children have taught her.
Her approach to sleep is based on respecting and honoring the needs of children. Over the years, she studied the “experts,” and experienced what aspects did and did not work for children, and why.
Once children can roll over, pull up on a crib, or climb down from a bed, the fundamentals are the same, but some of the techniques are obviously going to change, so these ages warrant their own class!
The approach she has developed includes a slow progression of skill learning, building on successes at each step, where children never feel abandoned and are not left to cry it out. In many cases, there is not crying at all except perhaps parental tears of joy and relief!
Every family must find the right fit for them. If you could use some new, step-by-step ideas from a live person, not a book, here is one great option. So many parents and caregivers have responded positively because what Dawn teaches makes sense, and because it works.
Developing healthy sleep habits is one of the most immediate priorities for all families it is too important to every other aspect of our lives. Why?
This workshop is 2 hours. Maximum enrollment of 15 families.
** Note on Bringing Children: Do what you feel will best allow you and the other participants to pay full attention and get the most out of attending this talk. If it is important for your baby to be with you at this time, babies are welcome, but may need to leave the room if you feel there is interference with the class. Dawn recommends not bringing children old enough to understand what is being said, so you, Dawn, and other parents may feel free to have adult conversation, ask open questions, and discuss the realities of their current challenges.
All caregivers in a family are strongly encouraged to attend. If there is a grandparent or other caregiver present during the child's sleep times, please bring them!
$30 per family - please indicate how many adults will attend, when registering.

The Sleep Problem:
Many parents know the difficulties a sleep deficit can cause for them, including negative effects on mood, memory, concentration, and learning. Adults with young children in the home are also more likely to drive while drowsy, and the increased reaction-time is directly related to auto and other accidents and injuries.
But what about the children? They need adequate sleep to learn, develop, and form attachments with their caregivers. A lack of sufficient sleep can delay developmental milestones for infants and toddlers as well as effect children’s performance in school, increase behavior problems, and hurt the building of social relationships.
The National Sleep Foundation also finds that children’s sleep habits also cause moderate to significant stress on marriages/relationships, particularly for parents of infants. Developing healthy sleep habits should be one of the most immediate priorities for all families it is too important to every other aspect of our lives.
